Well, folks, it’s finally summer in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to the whole global warming thing, we used to have “cold” summers here in the San Francisco Bay Area. But this summer (and last), what with the California draft, we are experiencing heat wave after heatwave. I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with plenty of heat, so I actually like this sort of weather. This time, instead of having to turn the heating up on full blast, I may need to get air conditioning installed if this is the weather we are going to be experiencing! But seeing as I am used to cold summers, the help of an air conditioning service is going to come in handy. Apart from that though, I can’t complain. Having good weather is weird for the Bay Area, but it’ll make a chage. Saying this though, I am aware that it isn’t just the bay area where a heatwave could occur. Florida is just one example of a state that is well known for its long and hot summers. The summer for anyone can be quite a lot to deal with, which is why options such as using a fan, staying hydrated or even using the services that professionals such as a Clackamas air duct cleaning company have to offer (as this will help your air-con system work correctly) could help you keep cool during the hotter months.
I just taught courses in SEO and Social Media Marketing at BAVC (in the Mission District of San Franciso), and it was hot, hot, hot. We don’t generally have air conditioning here, and so when you’re teaching a class (or just trying to sleep at night), you can suffer more from the heat here, than you can in Tulsa or Dallas where it can easily be ninety degrees every day in the summer. Currently, I am teaching “Marketing Without Money” at Stanford – again (of course) focused on SEO and Social Media Marketing. Stanford has better air conditioning than BAVC, but still it’s hot.
Some tips to beat the heat in the Bay Area –
- Open your windows (at night), close them in the morning. My granny used to do this in Nebraska, and as a kid I remember many a summer morning “freezing” to death only to be told that I’d appreciate it in the afternoon.
- Take a fan / outside of your window and “blow” the cool air in. Really. It will make a huge difference.
- Go to the movies. Yes, just like the old days. When it’s hot in San Francisco, depart your dreaded apartment and head out to a cool movie, or an air conditioned restaurant.
- Drink a lot. Not just water.
- Go swimming. There are many swimming pools in the Bay Area, and if you’re really hot, head out to Ocean Beach and go for a dip in the Pacific. That will really cool you off.
- Replace your AC filter. You can order a MERV 8 16x25x1 Filter online, or alternatively measure up and find the right one for you. Not only will you appreciate the improved air flow, but you will also lower power consumption.
I hope this Global Warming thing calms down a bit. I love the heat, but we need rain and less heat in California. Now, back to work – working hard on getting those clients to the top of Google and getting their Facebook shares to “go viral.” Stay cool.
