Digital advertising is not easy. In fact, it is very easy to lose your shirt unless you really do know what you are doing. Certainly, like anything else, you can learn it. But it’s a steep learning curve and you can go through a lot of cash before you get it right.
There is so much to learn. There’s social media, just for starters – Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Reddit, Twitter, and a whole lot more. Even TikTok. Then there’s Google Ads, Bing Ads, Yahoo – the list goes on.
It gets worse because what works on one platform may very well bomb on another one. You thought you’d cracked it, so you went and did on Bing Ads what you did on Google Ads and lost a packet on the Bing Ads!
It can get worse still because it is so easy to get involved in a digital advertising lawsuit. Oh yes. Somebody takes offense at your ad because they say that you are copying their patented method or product – even though you weren’t aware of its’ existence. Or it might be the other way around: somebody copies your patented product. Or produces one very similar. Or their advertising could make people think it’s your product when it isn’t! Theirs is inferior and your name is getting dragged down in the mud because of it. So of course, you sue the so-and-so’s.
Fair enough. But if they decide to fight you – which they almost certainly will – you have to convince a judge and jury, and now you are talking a language that they don’t understand. And maybe you don’t understand it yourself.
