Many people are completely oblivious to the fact that Instagram is owned by Facebook, including many millennials and many people even here in “digital” San Francisco.
They believe that it is not “cool” to use Facebook, but that Instagram is fine. Well, here’s the thing: you and I won’t tell them that Instagram ads are managed by the Facebook platform, so they will continue to believe your Instagram ads are “cool” and therefore take more notice of them.
Let’s face it, it’s only a matter of opinion. Instagram – cool. Facebook – not cool. But if you want to advertise to those people you are going to have to do it on Instagram because they are not going to be on Facebook. Let’s be honest: from your point of view you don’t care who owns what, as long as your ads get results, and why should you? Lots of people are still blissfully unaware that YouTube is owned by Google and has been for many years. You can get clicks for pennies that don’t produce any results, or you can get clicks that do produce results but cost a small fortune. OK, if you are paying for clicks and not getting them then it is not costing you anything. However, it is hardly driving your business forward, is it? And the ultimate objective is always to move on and make maximum profits. At the same time, you don’t want to get it wrong and spend a huge amount on some forms of online advertising only to find that they are unsuccessful.
Unfortunately, that is very easy to do unless you have your wits about you. Or more importantly, you understand how and where and when to advertise in order to get the best results.
